Description

A 3-page letter from F.M. Gilham to Harry George describing baskets made by different tribes. Vol 1 P. 171A Dear Sir I never been able to secure the Trinity river baskets . I sent you a ????? and rare Sun basket I would not have secured this if if the Mehaly did not die. I send 3 Yukian baskets as they are very rare . You see the Yukians make their baskets smaller at the mouth. (_) (drawing)The ????-??? is the only one I ever have secured in this weave entirely. The "22-2/4 is an extra fine weave and very old Old pieces like these are not to be had. I have a number of customers I can send any good Old baskets to but I have given you the preference. I am still trying to get you a sample or two (2) of the Chimarikans work I just returned from a long trip and will not make any more long trips this year. Will take about six more trips close by then lay up for the winter. I have an order before me to fill on the 15- to a dealer in Arizona who I have sold for years. Respy.
