Description

Handwritten letter from H.B. Ferguson to Harry George describing various items for sale and prices. Vol 1 P. 144H Dear Sir: Inclosing photograph of n Eskimo lamp. two upper pieces are of pottery, not stone, and the third is the vertebra of a whale into which the oil receptacle fits snuggly. The last mentioned piece cme down this fall, the lamp I had. I want thirty five dollars for the lot or twenty five for the lower two. Two of these oil receptacles came out and I know of no one ever before selling or owning one. In the half circle opening can be seen the handle of a spoon (wood) used to dip oil to lamp above. Both spoon and handle are curved making it very easy to lift out full. I also have my third blonde Eskimo bow, quiver with ten arrows, came from private collection. Think it fully as good as previous ones, arrows not so elaborate but bow makes up. Costs me more and therefore will have to have seventy dollars. Just got in this week six rare strangely appearing masks. They came out to civilization via St. Michael and as yet I've not been able to learn what district produced them. The wood mask gives almost no idea of the articles. They are large, grotesque and some of the faces are not balanced ie right side entirely different from left. I may decide to photograph them, later, but they are so awkward to handle, for they would have to be taken to a studio, and I'm alone in the store. I want one hundred thirty dollars for the six, do not wish to sell singly for no two are alike. Every once in a while some thing comes in I think would interest you but I'm not much given to using the mail to sell goods. I have not offered these articles to any one else and will wait a reasonable time to hear from you. Sincerely,
