Description

Vol I pg. 23JJ Letter from Harry George to A.A. Bear noting his desire for Apache materials and asking for information about the tribes in Arizona. Dear Sirs: Referring to your letter of Dec. 7th, in which you state the Salt River Indians are Pimas, as that they make an entirely different type of basket from that of the Apache, I desire to state I would like to have one each of the two styles of weave, leaving the quality and shape to you. The good taste displayed in the Apache plaque which you mentioned some time ago lead me to believe you can make a selection that would be entirely satisfactory to me. I have never learned which of the three tribes of Indians under your care made the two baskets you sent to me but I should judge the Mohave Apache. Please try to clear up this matter for me if possible, or definitely let me know what the name is of the tribe or tribes that made the two baskets you sent to me. I would also like to know about the Gilla River reservation and by what tribe occupied. Yours very truly,
