Letter from Harry George to M.E. Kirk asking for more information about the belts recently sent. Includes a written response from M.E. Kirk. Vol I pg. 306C
Dear Sir: 4/16/20
The belts selected by Mr. John F Quinn and sent at his request, have arrived - but before coming to a decision I have several questions to ask:
I notice one of the belts has but five silver pieces in addition to the buckle, and that the other one has no buckle and seven pieces.
It appears to me that the belt having but five pieces should have six, and that the one having no buckle, has not been hand made, but cast. In regard to the remaining two belts, I have nothing particular to say, excepting that the prices for the same, are above what I feel I should pay.
Let me know if a lower price can be made upon any or all of the four sent for my consideration. I feel favorable towards keeping two of the belts, provided satisfactory prices can be agreed upon.
Please advise me at your earliest convenience so I may determine as to whether I shall keep any of them or return all by parcels-post-charges paid.
Yours truly,
Dear Mr. George: 4/19/1920
All the belts are hand made by the Navajo Indians. You realize what silver is worth today: so you know that prices quoted you are far cheaper than I can could make you if the belt had been made lately. However I will allow you 5% on any you select. If you do not care for any please return belts at once as I have ready sale for them.
Yours very truly

The belts were turned to me just as you received them. Navajos; like white men
like to be difficult. Hence the assortment of belts sent youSubject
