Description

Vol 1 P. 229S Letter from Harwood Hall to Harry George discussing the quality of baskets made in California and noting he would be pleased to show Harry George his collection sometime. Dear Sir: In reply to your letter of the 21st inst. relative to Indian basket makers, etc., will state that the Indians in this section of the country, or I might say in California, probably make the best baskets in the world. The prices of same depend, of course, upon the size of the basket and quality of the work. I have a large collection of baskets in my home and it would be rather difficult for you to understand the class of baskets unless you saw them. My collection has been gathered through years of of work among Indians . I have baskets made by practically all the various tribes of the west. I would be pleased to show them at any time. Very truly yours,
