Letter from Joseph Grisell to Aaron and Maria Whitacre

1: Adam and Maria Whitacre New Garden Jany 24th /53 Dear Brother and Sister (Frank) Where are you on this little planet Earth? or has your spirits been lifted away to some celestial abode and its so long that I had written to you that I had forgotten when it was, but we have been somewhat disappointed in not hearing from you since, but I find we are not the only relatives that have been disappointed. I received a letter from Samuel Neal lately in which he says they have not heard from you for nearly four years although he had written two letters to you and said he intended soon to write again. Sarah Neal had a hard spell of sickness last summer and fall but has been restored to reasonable health again, Samuel Goiselles(?) wife says they never hear anything from you and wished if we heard from you that we would convey the news to them. Setitia spent from June to the first of October of last year in visiting our children and other relations in the western part of this state and Indiana, the most of whom were enjoying good health. Stephen Whitacre looks old and frail is much troubled with whthisie(?) his wife is not very stout they have three sons, single, to wit; John Stephen and Samuel. When daughter Jane Kenedy has five children, three of them boys, Jospeh D(?) Whitacre appear to live at home they have a large room cleared out and well stocked. Jacob and Jasson are married and are improving an 80 acre lot each. Samuel Grisell and Ann with four children, namley Lydia, Albert, Mary Jane and Lewis live in Camden among their mills. Their farm is let out on shares, all their married children are settled not far from them. Hiram and Maria are not healthy. Samuel and Ann are both of the same weight (174lbs each) Ann looks very fresh and well. What a tedious and unsatisfactory way of communicating information to what it would be if we could have the pleasure of a personal interview with you. Letetias health is good but she is not right on foot she can walk to Hayes and Ruth
