Letter from Nathan Joseph to Harry George noting South Sea Islands and Arctic materials for sale.
D Sir
I do not know if you are interested in South Sea Curios if so I have some very fine spears from the Savages in the Solomon Islands, Earrings about 15 inches long from the Caroline Islands, woman's fighting knuckles with shark teeth at the edges from the Caroline Island made to fix on the hand like American brass knuckles, and a quantity of weapons & spears from the Philippines and other Curios. I have a skin Canoe from the Arctic that I feel satisfied will interest you as it is remarkably well made and a grand Curio. It is 18 inches long X 8 inches wide and contains 12 figures each one oar in hand dressed native fashion with skin shirt and pants made from bear intestines which is hand pound and prevents them from getting wet. These heads are covered with a native made wooden hat with a peculiar sharped long fish. The Canoe is a perfect model both for the native dress of skins and is genuine shape and material as a Canoe. It was brought from the Arctic as part of display in our Midwinter exhibit some time back. I will sell it for $15.00 cash but if the labor was paid for it wants cash ???? over $50.00. It only weighs about 2 lbs. but a box for it would cost you about $2.00 though the freight will be minimal.
