Description

Vol 1 P. 227D Letter from Sarah J. Henderson to Harry George discussing her attempts to secure items from various tribes. Dear Sir:- Replying to your favor about June 5th I can only now say that I am making an effort to secure for you the specimens of Karak Indian work that you especially expressed a wish for. I have in my collection a modest signed, oblong mat, about 5 by 7 inches, that was sold to one some years ago as a Yurok, and it came from the Klamath section of country. I have made an attempt to get in touch with Mr. Averill for further information concerning that piece of work, and hope to succeed soon, but he does not deal in indian baskets at the present time. Am expecting to hear from the Klamath country through a friend who has had dealings with a basket fancier of that region and hope to be able to supply your need in this respect sometime in the near future. Very truly yours
