Description

Vol 1 P. 276B Letter from T.R. Roddy to Harry George discussing an Osage bundle and other items. Dr Mr George - I feel somewhat guilty, not writing you before - Have been away & did not expect to be so long gone from home. Now I will try & answer you in regard to the Bundles - all Osage bundles are not equally alike in Contents - and the Winnebago Bundles vary very much sometimes in Contents. Your Winnebago Bundles as I remember it was I thot a little better than the Bundle I sold Thornburgh (^at same price) yours had a second ????? of wood representing the Christ Child - I always keep bundles intact - not adding or taking from the bundle- you say Thornburg put some outside pieces with his - I am afraid you have got your Osage & Winnebago ????? mixed - I notice in the "Feby ????" photo of Osage Bundle with club on top - this club does not belong to but belongs to Winnebago Bundle. - Osage Bundle has wrapping on outside of usually (^ tanned) Buffalo hide or rawhide wide strap about 3/4 in wide with Eagle claw & scalp attached. The Winnebago Bdls usually have 2 or 3 buckskin strings tied around it. The Osage Bdl was gotten or ????? by Ginny Miller. Some of the wrapping straps are ??? from age look like leather but these are usually of Buffalo hide The outer ???? is Buffalo hair of main or tail of the Buffalo. The last shield sold to Thornburgh which you bought and returned to me was gotten of Ponca Mahi thiam Koh -Osage. I sold it for $75.00 although had been offered $100.00 first. I expect to be here until a few Mch payment which will be about Mch 15 - 20th or 25th. Should be pleased to see you any time and help you out any time any inquiries from you will be prompt consideration in future I wrote Mr Thornburgh but had letter retrnd - sent to Portland ???? ??? ???? do you know where he is located Yo truly
