Letter from Urban de Hasque to Harry George asking if he would be interested in a pipe he set aside from the collection he is selling.
My Dear Friend:
I have sent in recently my application for a chaplaincy in the Army and yesterday Brigadier-General John P, O'Neil, in charge of the Oklahoma brigade at Camp Travis, wrote to Washington for my immediate assignment to his division before going across.
Mr. Braecklein was to come this week to look over my collection with a view to buy part or the whole of my collection or Mr. E. Payne of Springfield, Ill. But he has not shown up. However I expect him here next week. I write to you to find out whether to your recollection there are any specimens in my collection which you would like to secure, as I would be glad to give you the preference. I know of one pipe in which you might be reinterested. It came from Alaska. It is a fine relic. I would like to get $10.00 for it. I know that Mr. Butts paid that much and perhaps more for it. If acceptable I will mail it to you by parcel post.
I have sent my other Alaska curios to the University of Shawnee, Okla. ; but I reserved this particular specimen from the lot thinking that it might appeal to you.
As I am liable to be called away in the near future I do not expect to have an other opportunity of coming to St. Joseph, which I sincerely regret. But when I come back from the war, I hope to have the pleasure of meeting you again, and then I am sure to have a great deal of new experiences to impart to you. I intend to mail you occasionally a few lines to enable you to keep track of me "somewhere in France" "over there".
With kindest regards and best wished for your welfare I remain
Yours very sincerely,Subject
