A typewritten letter dated March 4, 1918, from Victor J. Evans of the Indian Claims office in Washington, D.C., to Mr. Harry L. George, St. Joseph, Missouri. The letter acknowledges the receipt of four Modoc baskets and expresses appreciation for them. He mentions sending an Elk Foot Bag, which is described as a rare item from Chief Thunder Cloud's collection, in exchange for the baskets. He adds having a limited number of duplicate articles and invites Mr. George to inform him if he wishes for anything specific. Evans also discusses purchasing a collection of old Indian necklaces from California and mentions an Indian reception held at his office, attended by Congressmen, Senators, and seventy Indian delegates from twenty different tribes. The event featured a Sioux war dance and a Pawnee Haki ceremony, with speeches by Senator Ashurst and others during the event. He expresses regret that it had not been possible for Mr. George to have been present. He signs Very truly yours.
