Letter from Jay Synch of the Yakima Indian Agency, Fort Simcoe, Washington, to Harry George regarding Mrs. Synch's basket collection which she would like to sell. They are principally of the Klickitat weave made from cedar root.

Dear Sir:
Replying to your letter of the 21st instant will state that it is very difficult to buy baskets here among the Indians. My wife has one of the best collections in the Northwest if not the best on the Pacific coast; between 400 and 500 baskets in which she has invested from $4000.00 to $5000.00. She desires to sell. If you are in the business I would suggest your sending a man here to examine her collection with a view of purchasing.
Her baskers are principally the Klickitat weave, although she has baskets from all sections of the country. The Klickitat basket is, as you know, made from the cedar root and is much sought after by collectors but none are now being made and probably never will.
Respectfully yours,
Jay SynchSubject
