The image depicts an old, folded letter addressed to Mrs. Sarah McClean in Columbia, Boone County, Missouri. The paper bears signs of aging with yellowing and slight stains. In the upper-right corner, a U.S. postage stamp is affixed, featuring a profile of a historical figure, possibly George Washington, in red. Near the stamp, there's a circular postmark that indicates cancellation, suggesting the letter has been mailed.
