Context

St Joseph Missouri Aug 7th 1874 My Dear Daughter Precious letter from you yesterday written since your return from Nashville. I an sorry your visit had to be so short down there. But glad you could even make a short one. You speak of going to Lexington next Saturday or I should have said tomorrow. I fear your visit will not be satisfactory either. ??? yourself on those you are visiting and account of the shortness of your stay. I want you to go down to Carlisle and see your Aunt Patsy and go down to see Uncle Thompson and Uncle Arthur you must go there if you only stay three days. Cousin Phoebe or some of Cousin Mollies folks will go with you. As you go I want you to stop off one day in Paris and go to Mr. Links if you write to Cousin Sallie Link a day or so before you go she will meet you at the depot. If you can not make the rounds and they are not satisfied with your visit to the ??? it will not cost you a great deal and as I do not know when you will have another opportunity of visiting then I want you to go and see all you can. Write me what you will do. I think I will go down town and get your suit sometime today, will get a pretty shade of blue pressure of flannel. think it will be much more becoming to your suit than scarlet. I do not think scarlet becomes you, will do the best I can about the cape. Flannel is much better than any stiff goods as it will be soft and pliable. When you get this suppose you will be with cousin Phoebe., how I wish I could see her and all the dear relatives there but do not know that I ever shall. give my love to each and every one tell Dr. and cousin Rick that I have spent many happy hours in their house and have now sent my daughter to do the same. (page 4 starts 1/3 down the page and ends at the top of the same page) you all will be disappointed concerning Eddie and the Dr.it will be out of their power to visit ??? this summer. Dr. has been appointed of the fine arts ball at the Exposition which commences the seventh of next month. so you see his time outside of visiting his patients will all be taken up he has a good sum of practice. You did not mention the gentleman's name that ???? you such a high compliment. what kind of service law ??? he make. I am sorry you did not see much of Wm Shiffiete. I suppose I had better quit writing as I have taken up all (continues to the top of page 1.) the paper. Mr. Wheeler took breakfast with us yesterday he came up Wednesday night to go to prayer meeting. I was not her(e) but he went on alone came back with Miss Kate. your uncle Ike sent me some Bairie chicken so I invited Mr. W__ to come sand help eat them (top of page 4, upside down) Mr. Marlow says he wishes you would come home, he never wanted to see any one so bad in his life. I want you to write to your Grandma and Pa telling them (up the side of the page) about the relatives, it would please them very much. (upside down at the top of page 3) All join in sending love to you
