My Dear Daughter
It has been several days since I wrote you. II have been expecting a letter from you for two or three days but have failed in getting one so far; it has been almost three weeks since you left home and I have only had one letter from you.
I had a letter from Henry two days since he is feeling better. he took one quickstep powder and it straightened him out. Your Uncle Will thinks you might get through visiting in Ky. by the 15th of this month. says if you do not go to his house before the last of August he will keep you all winter, that you belong to him anyhow.
We are expecting your Uncle Ike and Aunt Rach home in the morning. They have been in Chicago the most of this week. I suppose they will call on Mattie and Will while there.
You see from the date of this it is Independence Day so this afternoon we all go over to your Grand Pas to see a display of fireworks and partake of some refreshments given to the children of the neighborhood by Mr Wall. We will set the table in the yard. Lizzie is all dressed ready to go over.
Sarah thinks of going to a Reinie over in Kansas she will leave about twelve O'clock and I intend to give Mr. Marlow a lunch instead of a regular dinner. She is not feeling well today.
I suppose you think I am a long time in finishing our overdress. I admit I have but it has been so very warm and dusty that I felt as if I could not sew on it. Have been waiting for rain. I have come to the conclusion I might wait all summer so yesterday I sewed on it all day - will send it to you Tuesday or Wednesday of next week as for your sleeves I think you had better get them there if you need them.
I went to the entertainment at Mrs. Austits last Tuesday night had quite a nice time did not get home until after eleven O'clock. Miss Nat(?) came home with me and remained until ThursDay morning. I went over to mothers Tuesday evening that is after dinner and came home before supper but had forgotten all about the entertainment that night. I was over by the back window in this room wiping of some glasses of Jelly and Jars of raspberry jam when I heard the bell ring. Jim went to the door and it was Mr. Austin. I told Jim to bring him back into this room as I was busy. I finished my work and then Dr. ____ asked me to go around to Mrs Austits with him.
(the letter continues around the edges of some of the pages and continues in the empty space at the top of the first page)
I told him I did not care to go that I was affraid I won't feel like a fish out of water or rather out of place but he insisted so I went. Miss Nat said that when we entered the grounds some one remarked that one of the name was just the same. I do not know who it was. I will send you a letter he got out of the post office they had there. I am in a hurry and can't write any more. A letter came here for you from cousin Phoebe. There is not anything particular in it but I will send it if you desire. She is delighted that you are going to ? ? ? write to her.
Give my love to all the family. Tell Mrs. Rowland that I have not found what the girls lost but I think I know the young men that have.
Mr. Wheeler and Miss Kate takes ? ? ? with me tomorrow. Your loving Mother. Send some message to your grandparentsCollection
