Context

Querida, I have about ½ hour before Barbara Lee comes after me, so tho't I would dash this off, . . . ; then I'll finish . . . later. We are to be at the church at 6:00 . . . she has to stop . . . for gas. It rained this morning, . . . but it has cleared off beautifully . . . . Church this morning was crowded, . . . . The little children sang real well; . . . We had a big adult choir. . . John was excellent, his topic was the Beatitude about the blessings of him who is persecuted for righteousness' sake. and who sees the kingdom of heaven. He described Jesus' . . . entry into Jerusalem, . . . the crowds cried "Hosanna!" . . . (But) there were the Pharisees . . . the "Silent, sullen, somber, and sulky" men who hated Jesus & were his enemies. It is said that we are known by the company we keep. . . . . But we are also known by the enemies we have. . . . we should(not) deliberately set out to make enemies, but we should stick by what we know is right, . . . . . . . The Pharisee was an enemy of Jesus, yet he was a religious man . . . . . he fulfilled and enhanced the law; he gave it meaning. If we stand up for what is right, we will be "going somewhere" . We must dare to be different, . . . be pioneers - . . . . . . . - pioneers who are ahead of their time, and . . have the inner joy of knowing they are right. . . . . . . "Blessed is he that is persecuted for righteousness sake, for he shall see the kingdom of heaven." . . . . where is the kingdom of heaven? It is not a place in the far distance, . . . ; it is here and now. . . . . . This week is just fullas I have said. . . We are looking forward to your arrival Thursday, and hope the weather is good over the week-end. * * * * Monday p.m. We had a charming time last night. . . . . . . It rained just as we reached Oregon, about 7:00, and poured after we got there. . . our crowd was very slim. . . we sang pretty. . . and afterwards met at the Beacon to eat. . . . Didn't get home 'til after 11:00. Am real tired today, . . . I.R.D. is April 18th; could I stay with you if I came? Got myself a new white orlon sweater - real lush. . . . I went to diner at Stinson's . . . . - was it ever good! M. A. had a guest from Shenandoah, a girl who also teaches. Well, guess I will stop for this time. I'm glad you finally got rid of your cold; we are all okay here. Lots of love.
