Querida -
There is much news today! Just hope I get it all told to you.
Item Number One: Fannie had a baby boy Sat. a.m.! . . . . . . . . everyone is very happy with him.
Item Number Two: This one is not so happy - Larrie and Max are leaving. . . . . They're . . . (going) to Anderson, Indiana . . . . - same job but quite an advancement. . . . every one hopes they get more cooperation. . . . Mrs. Sutherland wrote a lovely letter of appreciation . . . .The choir super will also be a farewell party for them . . . . . . .
Item Number Three: Virginia Lacy is a grandmother! . . . . . . Donna and Greg went to Topek over the week-end . . . . and she . . started hemorrhaging, . . . The baby, a girl, . . . they think she'll be all right. . . . . .
It has rained and rained here lately. The . . . picnic . . was cold but rainless . . . . Mar & Daddy & I went to the Cardinal game - . . . They won. . . . It was a good game.
Sat. it rained . . . . Mar didn't go to Wadsworth.
Yesterday I had to teach Sunday School, . . . . Mar & Daddy came to church, & John was really good, . . . . . I'll give you his sermon later.
In the afternoon Daddy & I went with Mar to see Fred E. . . . . . Mother . . . had work to do & she wanted to write to you. . . . Fred E. . . . . will have to have an operation to remove his gall bladder. . . . . Mar will stay all night tonight. . . . .
. . . . Mar & I went to see "The Blue Gardenia" . . . . . It was very good.
Last night she & I went to the Young Adults meeting . . . Out topic . . . was "What About Hell?". . . . most of us decided we didn't know much about it! . . . . we had a most enjoyable time . . . .
Tonight I'm not very busy. I have just 3 things - Spanish party . . . . , Music Group of A. A. U. N. picnic . . . . circle meeting . . . .
To get back to Larrie & Max, I don't know who they'll get to replace them. . . . . . Of course I don't blame them. . . . Mr. Rhodes, . . . , says they definitely plan to keep a full choir . . . . We'll just have to wait & see.
John's scripture reading was about Paul, . . . . . . Many times in life we find that one door is closed to us, so that another may be opened, if only we can see it. . . . . . , this is Negro Work Week . . . and we are trying to raise $1,000,000. . . . to build up Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala. . . . . lacking in facilities and accreditation. . . . . .
"We can't all be members of the U. N., . . . that door is closed. But here is something we can do; here is an open door." . . . But, maybe we'd better say a few things about the Negro; there are several things that can be said in his behalf.
"First, he didn't choose to come here. . . . . .
"Second, the Negro of today is not the Negro of yesterday. . . . .
"Third, the Negro is a human being, like you & me. . . . . Christ died on the cross for him, even as He did for you. . . . . .
"The Negro has a right to say, 'Come over and help us.' . . . I think an elaborate campaign for funds is unnecessary. I believe you will give more than our $2099 quota, . . . . !"
He was really wound up - it was excellent.
Just heard that Burton Barkus is in Wadsworth . . . . ! We must tell Mar.
And I must stop!
Love,
