Dearest Barby -
I have much to tell you - watch me forget half of it. First, Carol . . . is to marry Louis . . on June 20th. Brother Gene is one of the high ranking boys at J. C. - . . . Second, Esther . . . & George's . . license was in the paper today. Third (. . . ) , today was Larrie & Max's last, & . . . . , Tommy Thomas is too direct us in June. Jim . . . will be organist; . . . ; Mrs Gibbons told me on the way to choir Thurs., . . . . He'll be alright, I imagine, & . . . we . . all like him. The new job starts July 1st. . . .
I got a letter Tues from Jim . . . , telling me he enjoyed our visit. . . . I had a list of things to buy yesterday - . . . forgot about Memorial Day! . . . . I need batteries for my radio; . . . Tho't I might take it to school Tues . . . , and listen to coronation festivities.
Friday night Daddy & I went to the wrestling matches - . . . Ronnie . . . looked perfectly darling - . . He won too!. . . . . . Orton . . . . ; he wouldn't even sign the kids' autograph books. . . . . . . . .The other two matches weren't very good. . . .
Mother & I saw Ronnie downtown Fri. afternoon. . . . . Even then he looked cute. . . . .
Today I spent in church - . . . practically. . . . . . . . . I missed a little of John's message, . . . He talked on "What's the Use?" , and told about Elijah . . . "There are still 7000 who have not bowed the knee" to . . (Communism) and if that is so, then there is still hope.
This morning's sermon was the first in a series of two. . . ; I would like to ear the next. . . . It will be on "Putting Away Childish Things." Today he told about the child-like characteristics we should carry over to maturity. They are four: a vivid imagination, an open mind, a naivete . . . , and a simple trust or faith in God. . . . .
A child has a very vivid imagination. "All of us have known examples of this; . . . . . Jesus . . . imagined that He could found a religion . . . by using eleven . . . men as disciples.
". . . , we need an open mind. I have . . friends ,who . . . could no longer punish their son by making him sit . . in the corner. . . . . ; he had opened his mind and created diversion for himself. . . . . , we must adapt & adjust the unchanging Gospel to our changing times."
A child sees thru the exterior of persons to their core. . . . . The naive mind grasps the situation as it truly is, & not as it appears to be.
We need a simple trust in God. . . . We must learn to choose our way, . . . . because it is Christian, and the will of God. . . . . And we can do so much if we try. . . . . God wills peace for us, if we would but trust in Him, and strive toward it.
We were on radio today. . . . .
Bertha gave me some peonies and roses to bring home, . . .
Well, I s'pect I have rambled on long enough. Hope your exams weren't too tough. . . . .
Love,
(On the back tab of the envelope is a P. S.)
P. S. Billy McKinney ran his arm thru a glass and cut it so they had to take 9 stitches. He did it on Derby Day - before the festivities. M.Lexicon
