Context

Querida hermanita, Too bad you couldn't hear us Sunday! John was very good. He talked on "What's in a Name?" He . . . cit(e) examples of Isaac, Jacob and Esau. . . . . Names hd great significance in Biblical times. . . . John the Baptist (not his father's name). . . . father was a priest, and the sons of priests were always named after their fathers. . . . . . Hosea named his son and daughter as warning to the Israelites of God's displeasure. Then, later, . . . . the children were renamed . . . indicating that God had forgiven His people, . . . . . . . . . . . . . John went on to explain what our name Presbyterian means. . . . . a denomination "governed by old men", . . . . , these "old" men are now feeble, but mature and wise and able to govern the affairs of the church ably and well. . . . But, . . . Presbyterian is our name of Christian, "followers of Christ." Next Sun. he will preach another 1st person sermon, "The Autobiography of a Collection Plate." That is the day we adopt the budget.. I had circle meeting last night, and it was very successful.. . . . We got your laundry yesterday. Thanks for the belt. It . . . fits fine. . . . I had to wear it today . . . . - looked real collegiate! Also thanks for Dr. Ramsey's book . . . . I knew him. We beat C. B. ! . . . . . our kids played wide-awake ball . . . . . I read in the paper that Missouri is having secret football sessions this week. That seems wise after two defeats. What has happened to our defense? . . . . Next Sunday as that Reformation Day Service announced in the Bulletin . . . . , several choirs are to sing under the direction of Larrie N. Clark. . . . . We will practice again . . . Sun. , before the service. . . . . Well, dearie, best I be closing this, as I . . . have some A.A.U.N. business tonight. We are all fine and hope you are, too. I wish you didn't have to study so much, we miss your letters. Lots of love,
