Context

Queridisima, Whew! Summer is here! It is "hotter'n the hinges", . . . a wonderful, sunny, warm day! , . . . . , we had the car washed . . . ! It was pretty dirty after all the weather it went thru Sunday. For circle meeting Monday, I was to give the program report on Church Extension. . . I knew nothing whatsoever about it. . . I stopped at church Mon. evening. John was just leaving . . . but he turned around & went back up to his office . . . to get me an "enermous" book with a report from the Board of Church Extension in it. (and) his copy of Sunday's sermon, . . . I stopped to chat with Joyce Ann, & . . . she told me about her leaving to take the Christian Church job, . . . She will get a $50 a mo. increase, . . . I guess you can't blame her for leaving, . . . . Things have been happening fast & furiously to me this week. Mr. Wallace . . yesterday . . . ask(ed) me to go with him to the Jr.-Sr. banquet, today he is in the hospital! He had some sort of attack while out driver-training, . . . the kids rushed back to school, they called an ambulance & took him to Mo.-Methodist. He seemed to be partially paralyzed - . . . I surely hope he gets over it, . . . doubt he'll recover . . . before next Thursday! . . . . . Isn't it something that everything happens at once & neither Fred not Vic can go? . . . . . We haven't had any more office news lately, but Daddy is to go to a meeting of all the Western Division construction heads in K. C. the 11th & 12th of May. . . . we plan to come down & celebrate his birthday and Mother's day at once on the 10th, . . . he won't be home for his birthday. . . . . I'll have to talk with you this Sat Tonight I shall wash my hair - . . . . figured it would look better Sat. if I didn't wash it too early in the week. Now for John's ideas om "Why don't we teach honesty?" First he quoted from the Louisville Journal, . . .. How can we expect the youth to act honestly when the very system . . . involved is dishonest? . . . . If we expect our youth to be honest, we must place him in an honest environment, one in which honesty is only a part of the moral picture, one of many true values. . . . . . . . I disagreed with some of his remarks, . . . . But I have to admit that many of his remarks were too true, . . . . Well, ma & I will mail this, as Papa is out of town. . . . Lots of Love, Tonight I'm going to stay home & sew on my dress! . . . I'm making the chartreuse & black for the banquet.
