My Darling Annie! I received your dear letter in due time & was delighted to hear
from you once more, but - Sorry to know you thought for a moment I had forgotten you,
never in the world & Oh how I long for one look at your dear face once more. I often
think of our school days, though we thought them sometimes hard when nevertheless
I think we enjoyed them. Your mother was quite right in her remark in regard to beaux
& books. I have long since found out we could not keep up with both. I have not been
attending school for over a year now. I don't believe but expect to join a class next
month, of only six which will be much nicer than going to a larger school. I am studying
French now with a very fine teacher, the same I will converse with next month.
How I wish I had you here to join the class with me. Would that not be delightful;
though I expect you are through with your studies for good, but you do not need to
keep them up as I do. for you know you were always considerable ahead of me. I had
a letter from "Luhé McGrory" the other day. She is still the same "Luhé" as ever. She
was quite well and had just gotten through with her flirtation with Poor Little Jim
Gleaves. You will remember who he is. I know I am not at all surprised to hear you say
you have become very much attached to St. Joe & the people and no doubt it is with
the people . . . but do not go to changing your mind without giving me due notice,
but I think there is plenty of time for you & I, dont you think so? I think there are few
persons good enough for you Dear Annie, So I hope when you do marry you will get
one that is worthy of you. I suppose when I see your dear self again you will be married
& settled down but, if not for I should hate to think I will not see you again until then
Papa and Eddie have gone down the coast for a month or so. Eddie is not in very good
health and we thought the trip would do him good. Mamma is quite well again & sends
her love to you. Be sure Dear Annie to send me your picture when you have one taken
for I am so anxious to see if you have changed . . or not. Perfection of course you have.
I suppose you are having very warm weather now - while with us, we are still wearing
our winter clothing & some days cold enough for fire, quite a contrast. I hope dear
Annie you will excuse this miserable letter, but I am not feeling very well today, as I
think I am taking cold some way or other & you know that makes a body feel so mean.
Give my love to your dear mother & write - me very soon. again with much love from
Your devoted friend
