Context

St Joseph Missouri June 20th, 1874 My Dear Daughter I think it very strange you do not get any letters from me. I have written two letters to you since you left. - one was written yesterday one week since and mailed in time to go out on the evening mail; the last one a wrote on Friday of last week. I trust you have gotten both ere this. We are all in usual health. Mrs C____ is over at your Grandma, Your aunt Rach has not returned yet but I believe they are expecting her in a day or two. Your Aunt Eddie is talking some of making a visit to . . . go to Cincinnati and from there to Lexington. I will go with her and remain a day or so. They are not fully decided about it yet. Mr. W_____ was by Sunday evening. Mr Blackmore was here about an hour last evening. Of course our chat was about the young ladies. Mr. Railey was here a short time then morning and then again about noon to get your address. I suppose from that he is writing to you or had already written. I told him you had had such bad luck getting any letter perhaps he had better ask Mr. Marlow as his letter went through all right - I heard today that the ??? was out visiting last evening with two young ladies. At least he was seen with two in his buggy about nine O'clock. Arthur has brought the Carriage over for me to go to the Mothers so I will have to hurry this letter up a littler, they are making jelly and preserves over there. I have been at the same work all morning so you see I am making some preparations for this coming winter. I am finding it quite warm work. I want you to make a visit to Nashville if you possibly can if Gerdy and May cannot go with you, you can go alone. Just ask Mr. Rowland if he will send you. I know he will if you a note to Luly just ask her to get her Papa to meet you at the depot. You had better write her several days before you go so she will be shur to get it; you had better ascertain before you go if or not they are in Nashville. ???? in a hurry to go. I will bring this to a close; have not heard from Henry since I sent him the Medicine I fear he is sick. I will finish your overdress just as soon as it rains and settles the dust. Cannot sew on it while it is so dusty it will soil it so. I am glad Mr. R_____ has gotten along so well with her Afghan it is pretty on now the colors good. Arthur wrote you several days since you must answer it. (at this point the letter continues around the outside of the page and upside down in the space at the beginning of the first page.) I have not seen anything of your buckle, will send Gerties belt when I send your package. My love to all the family and keep a portion for yourself, from your Mother. When you write again be shur to Make Mention of your GrandMa and Pa. when you want any funds let me know.
