Description

The Martindale Cabin: An 1857 Stone Structure in Greenwood County Kansas is the result of the Kansas State Historical Society and Kansas Department of Transportation agreeing that the architectural, historical, and archeological significance was sufficient to fund this archeological excavation. The stone cabin was located near Madison, KS in the line of a new highway construction over the Verdigris River. The cabin was built by William Martindale. a 22 year old widower arriving in Kansas in 1857 from Westport, MO to inhabit the new town of Hesperia. The cabin may have been built by Mark Patty, a stone mason who arrived with Martindale. The cabin may be one of the earliest buildings in the county. 51/Softbound/Illustrations/Photographs/Tables.
