Research Notes

Notes

This stone tool was created by the Tlingit tribe of Alaska and western Canada. Woodworking was a major industry in this area; tools like this were highly designed and specialized in order to help Tlingit artisans craft elaborate pieces of wooden art and wooden tools. The grooves in this maul would have made it more comfortable to be held in the hand.
