Scope and Content

May Preserve Old Costumes, 1950. In the St. Joseph Gazette, November 14, 1950 a proposal was made for a costume room at the St. Joseph Museum to be sponsored and promoted by the St. Joseph Historical Society. The request was made by Ada Clair Darby, Roy Coy, museum director and curator of the historical society, voiced in favor of the proposal, but explained it would take at least two years to collect costumes and to prepare for their display. Ms. Darby's plan calls for the collection of period costumes from historically prominent St. Joseph families and for acceptance of only those costumes which are authentic and in good state of preservation. Miss Sarah Catherine France suggested the historical society undertake promotion of an annual historical drama at Krug Park Bowl patterned after the Paul Green productions which are given each year at Monteo, NC. and Williamsburg, VA.
