McDonald, Silas Family Painting Snapshot, c. 2000. color. Snapshot of an oil painting in frame of Dr. Silas McDonald, his wife Sarah, and a toddler. This painting hung above the reception room fireplace in the McDonald Home on NE corner of 8th & Jules that served both as medical office and residence for McDonald doctors, ending with Dr. Wallace McDonald who donated the home to the St. Joseph Museum, c. 2000.
Dr. Silas McDonald was the first physician in the Platte Purchase, arriving in 1838. He moved to St. Joseph in 1847. He had 11 children with Sarah Donnell. This undated painting is evidently c. 1850s.
