Description

McDonald, Wilbur & Wallace, Doctor's Office & Residence, 301 N. 8th, Color Snapshots (16), c. 2000. color. Sixteen snapshots of the double-tenement style, brick home on the NE corner of 8th & Jules that served as the home and office for Dr. Wilbur McDonald and later for his son Dr. Wallace McDonald. Photos of both exterior and interior. Photos taken after the acquisition of the home by the donation of this building to the St. Joseph Museum by Dr. Wallace McDonald. For a time, the St. Joseph Museum used the building as its Administrative offices. It later sold the building to a private individual. Drs. Wilbur and Wallace are direct descendants of Dr. Silas McDonald, the first physician in the Platte Purchase, who practiced for many years in St. Joseph. From his descendants came, Dr. Dan McDonald and his two sons, Dr. John McDonald, a St. Joseph doctor, Dr. Lee Landis McDonald, a St. Joseph dentist. Dr. Wilbur McDonald is the son of Lee McDonald, and Wilbur's son, Wallace, also practiced in St. Joseph until his retirement c. 2000. Wilbur's family lived in one side this tenement and his office was in the other side. Dr. Wallace also practiced from this building.
