Description

Medicine Man Head Gear of Human Hair., Harry George Collection Photo, 1910 sepia. Photo of a headgear made of human hair, displayed hanging against wall. Handwritten on back: "Correspondence, Vol. 1, pg. 74E, 74D, W.H. Case Photo 63 1. Medicine Man's head gear made of human hair. Made of gray human hair, braided plaits or small braids. These were worn by the women who were chief mourners or those who were mourning for a close friend or relative. The effect is to make the mourner look old and miserable. And surely has that effect as I mistook a young woman who was mourning for her husband (who had been sent to the state prison for murder, and had died there.) and I took her for an old, gray haired woman. 5/28/10. $6/00
