Description

Moment in Time Exhibit, Pony Express Museum, Photos (23), 1993. color. Snapshots with some enlargements of the "Moment in Time" Exhibit at the newly renovated and expanded Pony Express National Memorial. This exhibit is located in the original stable entrance, just inside the big stable door. The exhibit consists of life-size and life-like replicas of horse, rider, and attendants. These photos taken during the initial installation of these models as evidenced by some supports still visible under the horse's legs. Deaton Services personnel are in some photos. Two photos include David Mead or Robbie Sipe, Museum staff members. When the visitor enters the area an audio begins of the actual moments just before the first Pony Express Rider took off (in this case from out of the stable). The audio captures the excitement of the moment. The chestnut horse exhibited is in flight stance, raring to go. The Rider, wearing white blousy shirt, with red kerchief about his neck, is leaning forward as to prompt the horse into action. A life-size stable attendant in green shirt, stands to the west holding the bridle of the horse to keep it from prematurely bolting. Another attendant, in blue shirt, with his back to camera, is preparing to push open the heavy stable door. 97.1P.867 = Shows horse & rider from rear of horse, looking toward closed stable door, face of attendant holding reins visible, and face of attendant opening door. b/w. 3½" x 5" 97.1P.868 =Photo showing horse & rider from west side of horse; view of back of attendant holding rein, and back of attendant opening door.
