Description
Clarke, May: Portraits & Snapshots over Course of her Life, 1880-1958. Martha May Clarke, oldest daughter of Joseph Clarke & Martha Conrad Clarke. Granddaughter of Thomas & Mary Ivory Conrad. She never married. She lived in St. Joseph with her widowed mother and was an educator. She lived in the house Thomas Conrad built in 1865 at 903 Robidoux with her mother, until near the time her mother's passing in 1949, when she lived at Mertland Apartments. She sold the home and its grand furnishings and, after her mother's death, moved to San Diego to work in the library at the Women's College where her sister, Genevieve, was Mother Superior of the Religious Society of Sacred Heart. May died there in 1966.
