Scope and Content
National Pony Express Centennial Association Monument, Dedication Program, August 11, 1964. The dedication is August 11, 1964 at Julesburg, Colorado. It was erected by Fort Sedgwick Historical society.
The Pony Express went through Colorado for only 18 miles and Julesburg No. 1, as a division point on the stage and freight route was designated as a "home station," where both riders and ponies were changed.
The monument commemorates both the original Pony Express and the centennial re-run, which was held in 1960, when 10 riders carried the east- and west-bound mails smoothly and without incident over the original trail.
