Virginia was a noted black teacher who served in the St. Joseph School District at Bartlett (colored) School and, after integration, at other schools in the district. She was much beloved by her students. Her father, William Neil, was the first black U.S. Meat Inspector in St. Joseph. In 2018, she celebrated her 100th birthday.
