Msgr. Nowland was educated in the parochial elementary schools in St. Joseph. He attended high school & college at Conception Abbey and seminary at Kenrick Seminary, St. Louis, MO.
He was ordaine at St. Joseph's Cathedral by Bishop Charles LeBlond in 1935. He transferred to become pastor of St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in 1964. He had retired in 1979. His first Mass was said at St. Mary's and his last Mass was also at St. Mary's on July 30, 1989.Lexicon
