Of Wonders Wild and New, Dreams from Zinacantan is a collection of dreams of eleven Zinacantecs, two of whom were shamans. These "dreams are ascribed considerable importance by the Zinacantecs, who see them not merely as portents of future events, with the souls of hostile humans and in communication with the deities. Dreams inform an individual of his capacity as a musician, a bonesetter, a midwife, or a shaman."
