Scope and Content
Old Medical Saddle Bags Presented to Museum, 1950. Medical saddle bags used by the late Dr. Perry Fulkerson Sr. were presented to the St. Joseph Historical Society. The two leather medicine carriers being kept at the St. Joseph Museum, still contain glass bottles of medicine used by Doctor Fulkerson, father of Dr. Perry Fulkerson Jr. who died recently, during his practice in Andrew County during 1840.
The 110-year-old medicine carriers were carried over a horse's back and attached by a strap to the saddle horn. They were the gift of Mrs. Perry Fulkerson. This article was in the St. Joseph News-Press --Gazette September 21, 1950.
