Born Sara Jane Fulks, she went to elementary school in St. Joseph, moving to Hollywood, CA with her mother after her father's death in 1929 to pursue an acting career. At that time, she changed her name to Jane Wyman. She was an actress and had been married to, and was divorced from, Ronald Reagan, also an actor, and had 2 children. She starred in several movies and went on to various appearances in television. She received many nominations for her acting, but it was for her performance in Johnny Belinda when she received her Academy Award.

Richard D. Fulks was at one time the chief of detectives in St. Joseph and the Buchanan County Collector. Richard and his wife, Emma, were neighbors of the Manning J. and Gladys Mayfield family. In 1921 the Manning's divorced and then the next year Mr. Mayfield died at the early age of 27. Due to the family's misfortune, the Fulks decided to adopt the Manning's daughter, Sarah Jane Mayfield. Sarah Jane changed her name to Sarah Jane Fulks.Lexicon
