Context

May 15, 1922. Mrs. H. K. Owen, 1027 Henry Street, St. Joseph, Missouri. My dear Mrs. Own: This letter will advise you of your appointment as State Chairwoman for Missouri on the Finance Committee of the Democratic National Committee. I take great pleasure in designating you the woman representative of the Finance Committee in Missouri and I earnestly ask you to give us every possible assistance. At the same time I want to give you my personal assurance that the campaign will be conducted in an efficient and business-like manner. We purpose to get a dollar and a quarter's worth of service and results from every dollar expended. In this determination I am cordially sustained by every man and woman who is to participate in the direction of the work. Prospects for Democratic success are strikingly encouraging everywhere and we are doing the best to form an effective organization to take advantage of them. To that end we need the help of such women as yourself. I feel very strongly that the most valuable service any Democrat can render at this time is the devotion of many hours as possible to the vital work of providing a reasonable sum to make possible the conduct of the campaign. Mr. Harrison Nesbit of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, the chairman of the Finance Committee will write you in detail as to what we would like to have you do in your State. With best personal regards and wishes for success, I am, Very sincerely yours, Candell Hull Chaairman.
