Metates & Manos: The Basic Corn Grinding Tools of the Southwest is a very thin pamphlet. From the earliest times, over 10,000 years, these tools have been the characteristic implements of tribes which gained their principal subsistence by collecting and gathering wild plant foods and products as opposed to those which lived mainly off the hunt. The pamphlet contains these sections in the discussion of these tools: Definition, Description, Ethnographic Use, Mythical Origins, and Archaeolological History. It also states that the combined metate-mano corn milling tool is perhaps the most important household implement of the native American Southwest. This booklet is from the Don Reynolds library.
