Description
Paradigms of the Past, The Story of Missouri Archaeology. A history of archaeology in Missouri and examination of the development of Americanist archaeology in general. Describes how amateurs and trained archaeologists examine artifacts and sites and how the views of the past changed over the last 150 years. Missouri sites played a role in the debate over whether mound builders were a separate race. This coupled with the discovery of a prehistoric mastadon carving made Missouri a prominent in developing method and theory.
Included are archaeological figures such as Albert Koch, Carl Chapman, Gerard Fowke.
