Description

Patee House as Sun Garment Co Factory., Photo, c. 1950 b/w. Photo taken of the Patee House at 12th & Penn. Cars in the street suggest the photo is dated about 1950 as a 1949 Nash Rambler is prominent at intersection. Exterior View of front. "Sun Garment Co," sign over entrance. The Garment factory operated from 1933-1953 and then under the name H.D. Lee from 1953-1957. At that time the once famous World Hotel and headquarters for the Pony Express would have sat empty and idle for some years and be in deteriorating condition. After the 100th anniversary of the Pony Express in 1960, some interested persons formed a group, the Pony Express Historical Society, who purchased the building and made necessary repairs to open in as the Patee House Hotel Museum which exists as of 2020. Original digital scan located on History CD 04.
