Patee House, Don Reynolds Photo), 1959. b/w. Photo taken of the Patee House at 12th & Penn by SJM photographer Reynolds in May 3, 1959.. At that time the once famous World Hotel and headquarters for the Pony Express would have sat empty and idle for some years and be in deteriorating condition. After the 100th anniversary of the Pony Express in 1960, some interested persons formed a group, the Pony Express Historical Society, who purchased the building and made necessary repairs to open in as the Patee House Hotel Museum which exists as of 2020.
This exterior view is taken of the front of the hotel, before porch rebuilt. Horse/buggy in street in front of hotel. Three photos, #163B the buggy being in slightly different location.
