Peace Medal Information File, 1977. File folder containing correspondence, research notes, interview notes, newspaper and magazine articles concerning the Peace Medal, James Buchanan, in the collection of the St. Joseph Museum.
This medal (get Accession #), belonged to Jim White Cloud (1849-1907) and was said to be given by him to Neal Gallagher, a storekeeper in Sparks, KS, in payment for a debt (sack of flour?). The medal may have belonged to Jim's father, Francis.
The museum staff was never able to discover if the medal was actually presented to either Jim or Francis, or how it came into their possession.

--Correspondence between Don Reynolds, and United Tribes, Horton, KS about obtaining a copies of photos of the medal to use in their publication: Indian County, 1977
--Indian County Newspaper, December. 1977-1978, with above mentioned article.
--Correspondence & interview notes between Don Reynolds and Betty Gallagher, concerning her memories about the Peace Medal that had belonged to her father, who got it from Jim White Cloud.
--Book page, Catalogue of Coins, Tokens, Medals, p. 356, unknown year. None of text describes the Buchanan Medal
--Correspondence from National Archives, 1977, provided copies of entries in Indian Reports with name White Cloud in an attempt to determine if the medal was presented in Washington D.C. to either White Clouds.
