Context
The original Acme Machine Company (222-224 S 3rd) was started by Daniel Spoerndli at the turn of the century. His wife was an Aunt of Ludwig Wildhagen. Mr. Spoerndli died unexpectedly of a heart attack around 1935. Ludwig Wildhagen purchased the machine business from his aunt at that time. He continued under the name of Acme Machine. Sometime after WWII the business name was changed to Wildhagen Machine & Supply Inc. The building remained the same until purchased by the MODOT for the on ramp of 229 South at 3rd & Charles streets during Urban Renewal.
The above information was supplied by Doug Wildhagen, grandson of Ludwig Wildhagen to Rick Drodz (creator of St. Joseph Memory Lane).
Currently a city park is at this location
