The newspaper story indicated the operators of the hotel were illegally selling alcohol and had their business closed by local deputy sheriffs. The St. Joseph Memory Lane website includes, "In 1937, James Evans was the manager In 1950, Ora & Ira Coleman was the managers. In 1950, they were having problems with their liquor license. Photo is 1950 News Press photograph 1st & Felix Street no longer exists, the I-229 exit is now at this location"
