Description

St Francis Hotel building was located on the North East corner of 6th & Francis, (601-613 Francis) across the street from Townsend & Wall. The first floor of 605-613 Francis housed check-in and hotel services. Other businesses operated out of 601-603 Francis. The St Francis Hotel, formerly the Heaton House, opened October 1, 1880, by James Herson. It was a well kept and highly popular house. An addition of 45x52 feet three and a half stories high was made. This rendered the entire depth of the building at 120 feet. The street car line turned at the corner near which this hotel stood. In the 1960's the building was demolished and a one story building replaced it. The first occupant was a new Katz Drug Store. The corner in front of the building was a bus stop. The store provided shelter from the weather and was a popular hang-out for waiting bus riders. The Katz Drug Store later became Skaggs Drugs which later moved to East Hills Shopping Center. T Skaggs closed their drug store at East Hills several years ago. It is unclear what business occupies that building. Circa 1880 ST. FRANCIS HOTEL 605 Francis Circa 1921 ST.
