Construction of the original auditorium began in 1905. The auditorium doors opened for business on March 1, 1909. This was the original city auditorium, it seated 6000 people.
Razing of the auditorium began in May 1985. Photo #37 is a 1986 photo of destruction in progress
The city auditorium was one of the city's finest buildings at the time of it's construction. It stood on the west side of 4th Street, between Faraon & Robidoux Streets. When the civic arena was built downtown, the city auditorium was demolished and the site became a parking lot.
