BIRD-WING COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT
Waterworks Road
Bird Wing Commercial Aircraft Corp. was the first of three St Joseph aircraft companies that opened it's doors in 1927.
Bird Wing built planes and gliders. Two other companies, Barling Aircraft Co. and Campbell Aircraft Co. would build planes in St. Joseph for a few years.
Bird Wing manufactured aircraft in the late 1920's and early 1930's
Was located where the old Roscrans field once was, approximately where the St Joseph Casino is now
It's airfield ran parallel to the Waterworks Road, which is visible in one of the above photos
In 1927 the Bird Wing Aircraft Corp. built planes here, but went out of business in the depression.
October 17, 1929 the Ford Reliability Tour sponsored by Henry and Edsel Ford stopped here
