Pioneer Women; Voices from the Kansas Frontier is a collection of priceless autobiographical accounts written by hundreds of pioneer women. Included are stories of wilderness mothers, schoolmarms, Indian squaws, immigrants, homesteaders, and circuit riders. Their personal recollections of prairie fires, locust plagues, cowboy shootouts, Indian raids, and blizzards on the plains vividly reveal the drama, danger and exitement of the pioneer experience. Included at the end of the book is an Appendix (Guide assembled by the author's grandmother, Lilla Day Monroe, to women, many of whose memories are included in the book), a bibliography and an index.
