Scope and Content

Pony Express, 1938. On the third day of April, 1860 the first Pony Express rider left St. Joseph. It is a tribute to the pioneers of St. Joseph. On the seventy-eighth anniversary let us call attention again to the brave riders who carried the mail so many hundreds of miles; to the keen minds which conceived and planned the route: to the historic cities served by the riders. Tomorrow St. Joseph is permitted to have the world premiere showing of a great motion picture dealing with the Pony Express called "The Overland Express." Done in the office of the mayor, April 2,1938. Phil Welch, Mayor of St. Joseph.
