Scope and Content

Brief History Of The Pony Express. This article consumes most of this page. The story is how it originated and the purpose it served during its brief existence. The mail would start at the Missouri River in St. Joseph, Missouri and arrive in Sacraments in seven days and seventeen hours by horseback. With the completion of the telegraph line in October, 1861, the Pony Express became a thing of the past. The old Concord coach still lumbered along with passengers and express, but it too, was but the advance agent of the locomotive. Dated Wednesday, April 2, 1913.
